Graffiti is one of the most common types of vandalism and can occur happen at any time to both residential and commercial properties. Many people spent hundreds of pounds getting graffiti removed and it can get very expensive.
Anyone who frequently deals with graffiti vandalism will benefit from the use of anti-graffiti coatings. These treatments have become increasingly popular over recent years and it is easy to see why.
What are anti-graffiti coatings?
Anti-graffiti coatings can protect the paint, markers, or ink from bonding with the surface, making it far easier to remove graffiti with hot water and special detergents. There are two main types of anti-graffiti coatings:
- Sacrificial coatings: These transparent coatings are applied and removed each time a surface is graffitied. They are usually used on more delicate surfaces, such as brick and stone and are cheaper than permanent coatings.
- Permanent coatings: These coatings provide a more protective layer to hard surfaces and will last for a longer period of time, normally around 10 years. They are available in both coloured and clear finishes and often contain silicone. In both cases, graffiti should wash off easily.
Our graffiti removal specialists can remove all types of graffiti from a variety of surfaces, including brick, stone, render, metal, pebble-dashing, cladding, shutters, marble, and more.
Why use anti-graffiti coatings?
We recommend the use of anti-graffiti coatings in specific areas for the following reasons:
- Easier to wash off: Anti-graffiti coatings mean that graffiti is much easier to wash off so surfaces are easier to keep clean and maintain. Sacrificial coatings have a waxy layer that stops the graffiti from adhering to the surface. When the graffiti is steam cleaned with hot water, the sacrificial layer will also wash away, so will need to be reapplied.
- Different applications: We can advise about the variety of applications on different facades and materials for the best results. We recommend that permanent coatings are used on buildings that are more likely to be subjected to graffiti such as the facades of public and commercial buildings and bridge sections.
- Acts as a deterrent: Graffiti artists will realise they are painting onto a treated surface because the graffiti will not stick so well to the surface and may produce drip marks. They are therefore more likely to find another location to vandalise and will leave your surface alone for good.
- Cost-effective: Being able to remove graffiti easily after makes adding a coating a cost-effective option. Our coatings are effective against all types of graffiti media including marker pens, spray paints, and fly posters. This saves both time and money in the long run.
